I Vibe-Coded a YouTube Transcript Copy Tool – It Just Works!
YouTube's own transcription tools are meager. So I created a better one!
As per usual, this Saturday morning had me digging deep into science videos — again! And in that process, I came across a cool video from Hany Farid about the work he’s doing to spot fake AI images. I really liked some of the concepts in that video, was looking into vibe coding a separate tool, and I wanted to read the transcript.
If you’ve ever looked at YouTube’s transcription, they don’t make it easy to copy, as they break the transcription down by timecode. Like this:
This is designed to get you “searching”the transcription (engagement- 😉), but there are a dozen other tools out there that do search better, namely any AI tools like Claude or Perplexity. I want to be able to search and parse some long transcripts.
What I want is the FULL transcription.
So I tried a new vibe-coding tool called Bool.
Bool is very simple, just tell it what you want to see, and, in a very git-hubby fashion, it will create the thing you want to see. So what I asked Bool to create is a “YouTube Transcript Copier” Chrome Extension. This was my prompt:
Now, I’ll skip to the good part, as this it looks like in practice. Below the video, I’ll show you where to download it, if you want to try it.
Where to get it?
If you like to try this particular “Bool” — you can download it directly from my Bool link here: https://bool.com/bool/youtube-transcript-copier-qlr/
DO: read the instructions and the disclaimer. What’s nice is that if you have Chrome, creating an extension is relatively simple and can run right from your desktop. I’ve made a few so far. Turning on “Developer Mode” in Chrome is as easy as flicking a switch. It feels great to be able to take a simple idea and make it a reality with very little friction.
What’s Next?
Building home-grown tools like is getting so simple and easy. I’d love to hear about the tools you’re creating to make your personal technology experience a better one.
Let me know. Share your vibe-coding ideas in the comments. What do you want to see in the world?
